There are no exciting pictures to this post, no adorable stories, just me explaining/complaining about our past two weeks. Exactly two weeks ago, Dave and I left Rexburg to travel to Oregon for work. To start with, we left Dave's phone in Idaho....had to have that shipped to us. Next comes the crash into the side of a moutain in Oregon at 10:30pm after a deer ran in front of our car and we slid off the road. Luckly we only waited about 30 minutes for someone to call a tow truck, and then about 2 1/2 hours after that to get picked up! We got to our place in Oregon around 2am while our car was taken to the repair shop. We called GEICO, our not-so-speedy insurance company, and they toldus to call Enterprise to get a rental car. Great! That is so nice! Turns out that those Enterprise commercials that say, "we'll pick you up" are completely false if you live in a remote little place like John Day, Oregon. Our sweet surgery director lent us her car to drive around town while we tried to come up with a solution to our problem.
Plan A- borrow someone's car from John Day. -Failed, no one has a car we can borrow for that long. Plan B- Have someone take me to Pendleton, Oregon to get a rental car. - Failed after Pendleton got 8 inches of snow overnight. Plan C- go to Bend with someone to pick up a rental car.
On Thursday, I went with the Mosiers, Brenda and Lincoln to get a rental car. The twisty, curvy roads were horrible, and I was already getting nervous about the drive home. They had 2 cars left at Enterprise, a Nissan Sentra or a minivan. I took the Sentra, bought chains for the tires and had them put on by Lincoln and followed them back to John Day, knowing that it would be a long, snowy ride back. After about 50 miles, the loud noise that the chains make suddenly stopped, and I knew I had lost my chain. After signaling to Lincoln and Brenda to pull over, I then slid, doing a complete 360 turn, thankfully without any traffic around. Turns out that my chain (the actual steel cable) broke off and was not fixable. At this point I began to cry. How in the world to people live in these places that they have to risk their lives to get to??? I just don't understand. Will we ever get home for Christmas? Being a really nice boy and probably slightly uncomfortable with my crying, Lincoln drove my car and we followed Brenda back to John Day. The rental car has scratches on the side from the broken chain, crappy tires, and we have another treacherous trip to make through the mountains.
Now for those that don't know about our living conditions in Oregon, it is incredibly cold! Like, there was ice in the toilet one morning. I know, I know, we need to find someplace else to live, but those that say that have not been here to see the options. The best part of my whole trip to Bend was that we bought an electric blanket, so that we can sleep in warmth! yea!!! Maybe my two week old cough will finally go away now!
So all week we have been worried about getting back to Idaho on Monday with the weather. Rolf, the other CRNA said that we could leave early because nothing ever happens on a weekend. Great! We packed up, dropped off some Christmas gifts, and started out of town. Nevermind....Dave got called for a crash c-section and we are now at the hospital! All we can do is laugh though right? It kind of goes with the past two weeks..... Everyone pray that we make it home in one piece sometime before Christmas! I can't wait to be with my husband and the kids in our nice, warm home! I am really grateful that we were safe, for the wonderful people that have helped us, and for the opportunity to come home, but what a crazy two weeks!

Scary! I had thought about driving to WA for next week, but all this snow is ridiciulous!! So sad you had a horrible time!
Ok, I know I am really late reading this post and responding, but what the heck, that is like the worst week ever. I am so sorry. I hope your holidays were much much better. That is crazy about the ice in the toilet. I read on your status that you bought a house? I hope you will post about that soon. Happy New Year!
